Cocktail Rings
There is no place for conservative in the world of cocktail rings. A cocktail ring is all about glitz, glam, and in-your-face opulence and style.
Cocktail rings had their first heyday in the early to mid 1900’s when cocktail parties were all the rage. This included the era of U.S. prohibition; cocktail rings got bigger and better, something along the lines of flaunting one’s boldness to not only break the law, but show off their disdaining great style in so doing.
With renewed interest in vintage and antique jewelry settings now en vogue has come a renewed interest in the vintage cocktail ring. Buyers are searching everywhere, online and in estate sales, for vintage cocktail rings made in the 1890’s and later. Estate sales, private sales, online vintage jewelry stores, and online auctions are all jumping into the market.
Much of the rings that are sought are those made (at least originally) by the big name designers; Gucci cocktail rings are one such example (in particular, Gucci horsebit cocktail rings). Replicas of such bold jewels are being put out to sale to the general public through wholesale cocktail rings distribution markets.
We’re not talking pretty little dainty diamond rings here. We’re talking big cocktail rings – bordering on garish and gaudy. In cocktail ring designs, bigger is always better. And by bigger we mean three carat diamond cocktail rings are just babes on the shelf – a mere entry-level player in the field.
Historically, the big beauty cocktail rings were not always diamonds. Many, in fact, were not. You see, there’s a problem with a big, clear, stone of questionable quality – the flaws are pretty easily spotted. An antique cocktail ring is just as likely – if not more so – to be set with a pretty colored precious gemstone that could either be more easily attained in high quality, or at least be less obvious with its flaws. Common styles and settings of cocktail rings included silver cocktail rings and garnet, and often an alexandrite cocktail ring or amethyst cocktail ring.
Today, many faux or alternative stones are set into costume jewelry cocktail rings, and unless you are planning a trip down the famed red carpet with your monstrously large rock ring, good quality costume jewels are perfectly accepted – even expected. The rise in popularity of cocktail ring designs has also pushed the idea into other venues. Now you can own in matching style cocktail ring jewelry – watch, bracelet, pendants, and more.
The popularity of cocktail rings has waxed and waned over the years since it hit its height, but cocktail rings have never been out of style. Elite celebrities always keep the cocktail ring dream alive in all its glorious facetiousness, and every now and hen, the littler people think to join in the fun. This is one such a time; a time when the most prim among us can let our hands loose and grab onto the closest passing big glam cocktail ring we can find, and where it with pride.
