What Are Bezel Rings?
Bezel rings refers to a type of stone setting used in gemstone and diamond rings. Bezel set rings do not have prongs, the most commonly seen type of setting. Instead, a bezel set ring has a rim of metal that surrounds the 'crown' of the stone, holding it in place.
The term bezel refers to the part of a cut gemstone (diamond or other stone) that sticks out just beyond the edge of the setting. The bezel may also be called the crown. It is this portion of the stone that the metal rim sits on to secure the stone in a bezel set diamond ring or gemstone ring.
A bezel cut diamond ring or gemstone ring usually has a rim of metal surrounding the entire crown of the stone, but there are also partial bezel set rings where the bezel setting is set onto only a portion of the stone. The metal that comprises the bezel can be any precious metal that would normally surround a diamond or gemstone in a setting; white gold, platinum, yellow gold, or silver are all common precious metals used to set a bezel cut diamond ring or gemstone ring.
Bezel set rings are common among diamond engagement ring settings. There are several advantages to choosing bezel set diamond rings. First and foremost, a bezel set ring (engagement or otherwise) is a work of beauty. Bezel set engagement rings have a very sleek, clean look. A particularly nice feature of bezel set engagement rings is that the entire ring is a thing of beauty; the focus is not only on the diamond (or gemstone in a gemstone bezel set ring).
Also, a bezel setting for a bezel set engagement ring is very secure. There is no fear of one or two prongs loosening and loosing the stone. Also, the smooth surface rim on a set diamond ring does not catch on things the way prongs sometimes do. For women who prefer a fancy cut diamond, a bezel setting is an excellent option. The pointed corners of square and rectangular cuts, such as the much loved princess cuts, give yet another surface to catch and snag; but on princess cut bezel rings, the edges disappear while the desired shape of the diamond still remains. Bezel cuts also have a lower profile than pronged settings. All of these factors add up to provide a very secure setting that is ideal for active lifestyles.
There are endless style and setting possibilities for bezel set rings. One particularly nice piece recently available on line is a black opal bezel setting. Rings in other styles of bezel setting are also available; some excellent buys on the internet today include bezel antique engagement rings, bezel set cubic zirconia rings, bezel emerald ring, and a bezel set two tone ring (with both white and yellow gold). Online jewelry shopping hosts many advantages, and is quite secure these days, but if buyers prefer, and they shop the right sources, there is always one very trustworthy and secure way to pay for bezel rings – paypal. More and more jewelry sellers are offering paypal as a payment source for added security.
Bezel rings are fabulous choices in diamond and gemstone ring buying. The added advantages of the extra-secure setting make buying bezel set rings something that is worth strong consideration; with a great look in a setting that is practical in its security, there is scarcely a better option. But bezel rings are more than security; they are simply beautiful in design, and a contender against any type of ring setting.
